If You're on a Mac...

Check out Mikablu's guide to Flashing Tamagotchi Smart on MacOS instead! Otherwise continue on down the page.

What You Need

What To Do

  1. Connect your TamaSma Card to your computer using your choice of card-flashing harware.

  2. Dump your card's binary data (BIN file) using AsProgrammer or FlashROM.

    • AsProgrammer: Follow the instructions in the Patch-i Box Guide. Use the right IC for the size of the card. If using Tama Spa's or Bazjo's programmers, set the programmer to CH341.
    • FlashROM: flashrom -p ch347_spi -r tamasmacard_backup.bin
If using Tama Spa's or Bazjo's programmers, use -p ch341_spi instead.

  3. Make a backup copy of the BIN file for safekeeping.

  4. Edit the BIN file with SmartyPants or Studded's tool. Skip this step if you have a custom or translated BIN file already.

  5. Flash your card with your new BIN file using AsProgrammer or FlashROM.

    • AsProgrammer: Follow the instructions in the Patch-i Box Guide. Use the right IC for the size of the card. If using Tama Spa's or Bazjo's programmers, set the programmer to CH341.
    • FlashROM: flashrom -p ch347_spi -w new_tamasmacard.bin
If using Tama Spa's or Bazjo's programmers, use -p ch341_spi instead.
